Life outside academia
Terra
My dog, Terra, is a regular in my office and in my classes. I adopted her on December 2020, when she was only 10wks old. She's a lab/pitbull mix, loves a turkey tendon, swimming, and rolling on gross things. She's our best girl!
Training
I started running in August 2023, after living a mostly sedentary life. Very quickly, I started falling in love with running and endurance sports. I could probably write pages upon pages the things I love most about it, but a good way of summarizing it is: I think of endurance sports as a way of testing what my mind and body can / cannot do, what new versions of me I can uncover when I am in the “pain cave,” and how I can find joy even when my mind is screaming at me to stop.
Since starting running and as of June 2026, I have raced around 4 10Ks, 5 half-marathons, 1 full marathon, and 1 sprint triathlon. My big plans for 2026 include: an Olympic-distance triathlon, a half ironman, 1 marathon, and a couple half-marathons. You can follow me on Strava where I regularly run with (my) students as well!
Crochet
I've been crocheting for a couple of years now. I've mostly made amigurumis and loveys, but I'm slowly getting into wearables as well.
